All I Want For Christmas Is...

written by Haley King, Children and Family Ministries Coordinator (December 18, 2022)

The top 50 Christmas gifts for 2022 range from a rechargeable hand warmer to a mini waffle maker. It’s that time of the year again where we search high and low for the perfect gift for each special person in our lives. Some people make it easy and send you a list, while others give you no guidance. My prayer for you this Christmas is for your wants to be more than just rechargeable hand warmers and mini waffle makers. All those things are nice and can be quite practical but those things don’t compare to the eternal value that Christmas should bring to our lives.

As a believer, Christmas allows us to reflect every year on the Truths of Scripture. One of my favorite Truths to reflect on this time of year is that God can be trusted and that He keeps His promises. As I look back over the last year and think about the good, bad, happy, or sad times I find comfort that Jesus Christ was there. He showed up for me in ways this year that I didn't even know I needed. I went through heartache, pain, and grief that I couldn’t of seen coming but God was there. There were days I had to cling to the Truth of Scripture even though I didn’t feel those Truths. I was able to grow personally, spiritually, and emotionally all because the promises of God remain steadfast and He can be trusted. Jesus’ birth proves He not only comes to keep His promises but to comfort and to save His people. Jesus continues to fulfill that promise today for His children.

Jesus’ intentions then and now still remain the same. Christ came because He loves the world. He desires to have a relationship with us.  John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love. With this in mind, Christmas can be a season of great joy regardless of our situations. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Let it be a time to reflect on God’s promises that He continues to keep in your life.

All I want for Christmas is… to stay faithful to my God that has been so faithful to me. And maybe that mini waffle maker ;)

I pray your family has a Merry Christmas and that you are able to reflect on the Truths of Scripture this holiday season.
